Philadelphia Police Officer Shane Seiber, a 40-year-old 10-year veteran and U.S. Air Force veteran, was killed during an ambush in West Philadelphia early Saturday morning. Seiber and his 33-year-old partner were responding to reports of an armed individual on a porch in the 100 block of North 52nd Street when they were fired upon.

Seiber was struck three times and died at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. His partner, a father of five, was struck 12 times and remains in stable but guarded condition. The suspect, 35-year-old Eric Lewis, an employee of the Philadelphia Water Department, allegedly continued firing at nine additional responding officers before being apprehended by SWAT while hiding in a tree.

Lewis, who has an extensive criminal record and was previously acquitted of a 2019 murder, faces over 70 charges, including murder and homicide of a law enforcement officer. According to arrest reports, Lewis allegedly stated the shooting was racially motivated, claiming he targeted the officers because they were white.
