Philadelphia police officer killed in West Philadelphia ambush

A Philadelphia police officer was killed and a second officer was seriously wounded during an ambush in West Philadelphia early Saturday morning. The officers were responding to a report of an armed man on a porch in the 100 block of North 52nd Street shortly after midnight.

Officer Shane Seiber, 40, a 10-year veteran of the department, died at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center after being shot three times. His partner, a 33-year-old father of five, was shot 12 times and remains in stable condition. During the incident, the suspect also fired at nine other responding officers, though none were injured.

Authorities arrested Eric Lewis, a 35-year-old Philadelphia Water Department employee, after he was found hiding in a tree. Lewis faces multiple charges, including murder, homicide of a law enforcement officer, and attempted murder. Investigators recovered two handguns and a shotgun at the scene, including one handgun belonging to the wounded officer. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of Officer Seiber.
