Philippine Airlines orders Boeing 787-10s and Airbus A350-1000s at Farnborough

Philippine Airlines announced a major fleet expansion at the 2026 Farnborough International Airshow. The carrier will acquire up to 15 Boeing 787‑10 Dreamliners, with options for five more, and nine additional Airbus A350‑1000 aircraft, also with five options, bringing its total A350 commitment to 18 units. Engine selections were disclosed: General Electric GEnx‑1B engines will power the 787‑10s, while Rolls‑Royce Trent XWB‑97 engines, covered by a TotalCare agreement, will equip the A350‑1000s. Deliveries are scheduled from 2031 to 2034 for the Boeing jets and from 2034 to 2036 for the Airbus aircraft.

The new wide‑body planes are intended to support long‑haul routes, especially between Manila and the United States, and to enhance the airline’s competitiveness in international markets. PAL President Lucio C. Tan III highlighted the aircraft’s range, efficiency and passenger experience, while PAL President Richard Nuttall emphasized the balance of reliability and flexibility the mixed fleet provides. The orders reinforce PAL’s position as the only Southeast Asian airline operating the A350‑1000, underpinning its strategy to grow tourism, trade and national development.

The agreements also include long‑term service contracts for engine maintenance and health management, reflecting a commitment to a versatile, future‑ready fleet through 2036.
