Philippine Armed Forces Chief Romeo Brawner pledges military stay out of politics amid Senate crisis

Armed Forces Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. said the Philippine military will not intervene in politics, stating “Political intervention is far from our mandate” as the Senate leadership impasse stalls legislation and delays promotions for five generals. He emphasized the armed forces remain disciplined, professional and loyal to the Constitution.

Brawner also dismissed rumors of a coup or internal unrest, noting continuous monitoring has found no threats within the AFP. He said the military is closely tracking reports of destabilisation and cooperating with other security agencies, while focusing on its core mission of defending the country amid the broader political rift between President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice‑President Sara Duterte‑Carpio.
