Philippine government launches emergency loan scheme and pledges earthquake aid
The Pag‑IBIG Fund announced a Special Assistance for Financial Emergencies (SAFE) loan program, allowing qualified members to borrow up to PHP10,000 at a 5.95% annual interest rate with repayment terms of one to three years. The loan, aimed at offsetting rising daily expenses linked to global economic effects, can be applied online or at any Pag‑IBIG branch and must be submitted by 8 Sept 2026.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. delivered a ₱20 million presidential socio‑civic fund to the municipality of Glan in Sarangani, the hardest‑hit area of the recent magnitude‑7.8 earthquake. The money will purchase construction materials for rebuilding homes of more than 23,000 affected families, complementing additional cash assistance programmes for displaced residents.
