Philippine House panel relies on evidence to seek conviction of Vice President Sara Duterte in impeachment trial

Representative Terry Ridon of the Bicol Saro party‑list challenged former soldiers to appear before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, saying their attendance would test the credibility of their cash‑delivery claims.

Rid​on also told a news forum that the House prosecution’s confidence in convicting Vice President Sara Duterte rests on the evidence they will present, not on changes in Senate leadership. He cited reports that the Anti‑Money Laundering Act flagged ₱6.77 billion in bank transactions linked to the vice president and her family. Duterte was impeached by the House on May 11 over alleged misuse of confidential funds, unexplained wealth, and assassination threats. The Senate impeachment court, now chaired by Senate President Pro Tempore Sherwin Gatchalian, is slated to begin the trial on July 6, and Ridon said the panel believes it can secure the required 16 votes for conviction.
