Philippine Senate leadership dispute deepens political impasse

Economists warned that the turmoil could spill over into the economy. Former Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas deputy governor Diwa Guinigundo said the political instability—highlighted by the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte, shifting alliances, and a controversial return of Senator Ronald Dela Rosa—could push the Philippines toward stagflation, erode investor confidence, and undermine institutional credibility. Business leaders echoed concerns that prolonged discord may dampen growth and public trust in governance.
