Philippine social insurance agencies report massive benefit payouts

Philippine social insurance institutions have reported significant disbursements to members and pensioners during 2026. The Social Security System (SSS) disclosed that from January to July, it paid out P205.56 billion in benefits. The majority of these funds, totaling P180.86 billion, were allocated to retirement and death benefits. This includes P110.83 billion for 2.70 million regular pensioners and P43.89 billion for 1.23 million survivor pensioners.

SSS President and CEO Robert Joseph M. de Claro noted that the agency achieved a net revenue of P55.50 billion during this period, with total revenues reaching P268.14 billion against expenditures of P212.64 billion. The agency is also implementing a Pension Reform Program that provides scheduled yearly increases through 2027.

Separately, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has returned over P19 billion to more than 700,000 members through its Balik Ginhawa programs as of August 31, 2026. These refunds, covering nearly 1.3 million loan contracts, consist of P8.9 billion from the initial program and P10.1 billion from the enhanced Balik Ginhawa 2. GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso stated the initiative aims to provide immediate financial relief to government workers by refunding loan payments covered by a moratorium.
