Philippine towns ban illegal meat imports and restrict pig shipments over African swine fever

The municipal government of Moises Padilla in Negros Occidental issued Executive Order No. 293, prohibiting the sale of illegal or unauthorized imported meat and meat products without proper permits and certificates. The order targets imports that may carry African swine fever, requiring strict quarantine inspections and creating a task force to monitor markets, supermarkets and warehouses.

Capiz province adopted Executive Order No. 21, Series of 2026, banning the entry of live pigs, pork, pork products and related livestock shipments from Iloilo Province and Negros Island. The measure aims to protect the local hog industry and prevent the spread of African swine fever, with border checkpoints empowered to confiscate or return prohibited goods.
