Philippines announces eight film contenders for Academy Awards entry
The Film Academy of the Philippines has announced eight shortlisted films to compete for the country’s official entry in the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards.
The contenders include: • “58th” directed by Carl Joseph Papa • “All the Things I Leave You (Patawid)” directed by Jade Castro • “Filipiñana” directed by Rafael Manuel • “I’m Perfect” directed by Sigrid Andrea P. Bernardo • “Manila’s Finest” directed by Raymond Red • “Quezon” directed by Jerrold Tarog • “Silenced Nights” directed by Lawrence Fajardo • “Sisa” directed by Jun Robles Lana
Director-General Paolo Villaluna stated that the selection reflects a wide spectrum of the Filipino experience, covering themes such as history, social issues, identity, and survival. A National Selection Committee of industry experts will lead the final decision. The official chosen film is expected to be announced during the opening ceremony of Philippine Film Industry Month on September 4.
