Philippines diesel, kerosene prices jump over P10 per liter amid fuel hike
The Department of Energy announced that, effective July 21, diesel prices will rise by P10.68 per litre, kerosene by P11.77 per litre and gasoline by P3.65 per litre. Energy Secretary Sharon Garin attributed the hikes to renewed tensions in West Asia that have pushed up global oil prices. The Philippines, which imports about 98 % of its crude, has sufficient fuel stocks—approximately 46 days of supply—so the increase is not due to a shortage.
Motorists and transport operators across the country responded by queuing at stations ahead of the hike, with long lines reported in Koronadal City and other locales. Drivers cited concerns over household budgets and higher transportation costs, planning to limit trips until prices stabilise. In Metro Manila, pump prices surged to as high as ₱101.43 per litre for diesel and ₱99.75 for premium gasoline, prompting a price‑tracker service to highlight cheaper stations on secondary roads.
The price rise is expected to ripple through the economy, raising the cost of moving goods and potentially affecting the price of basic commodities.
