Philippines DPWH chief Vince Dizon to inspect flood‑hit Davao City projects

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon is set to visit areas of Davao City that were inundated after heavy rains tied to Tropical Cyclone Kiyapo and the southwest monsoon. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced the visit while inspecting a housing project under the Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino program and said the government will add 42 new buildings to People’s Ville to help reduce the housing backlog.

Dizon said the disaster was largely preventable, citing years of unfinished flood‑control works and poor maintenance within the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). He highlighted the incomplete elevation of a river dike on the Talomo River, which he ordered to resume, estimating the cost at under P100 million. Dizon urged a review of DPWH records, and Davao City Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte called for accountability, noting that earlier plans and JICA‑supported flood‑control master plans existed but were not implemented.
