Philippines earthquake kills 41, displaces thousands in General Santos

A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck General Santos in southern Philippines on June 8, 2026, causing building collapses, road and bridge damage and triggering tsunami alerts. The death toll rose to 41, with more than 450 injured and thousands of residents displaced. Hospitals were damaged, forcing some patients and even a newborn to be treated outdoors.
