Philippines experiences magnitude‑5.7 aftershock to June 8 quake

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck at 10:05 a.m. on 13 June 2026 in the municipality of Sarangani, Davao Occidental, about 21 km west of Balut Island. The tremor, recorded at a depth of 10 km, is an aftershock of the magnitude 7.8 offshore quake that hit the same region on 8 June.

The aftershock was felt across Mindanao, with instrumental intensity V reported in General Santos City and intensity IV in several towns in Sarangani and South Cotabato. No major damage or casualties were reported, but authorities urged residents to remain alert, inspect homes for possible damage, and report concerns to local officials. Disaster response teams continue to monitor the situation as the region recovers from the earlier strong quake.
