Apollo Quiboloy faces US extradition request over child sex‑trafficking charges

The United States has formally requested the extradition of Filipino pastor Apollo Quiboloy, founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ church. The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed it received the request and has forwarded it to the Department of Justice. Under the 1994 US‑Philippines extradition treaty, the request must be approved by two Philippine courts, which are currently hearing separate cases against Quiboloy for human trafficking and child abuse. Quiboloy was arrested in September 2024 and remains detained while pleading not guilty. A 2021 US indictment accuses him of child sex trafficking, fraud and bulk‑cash smuggling. He denies the allegations, calling them fabricated. Quiboloy, once a spiritual adviser to former President Rodrigo Duterte, founded the church in Davao in 1985 and has a large following in the Philippines and abroad.
