Philippines hit by 5.3 magnitude quake in Davao Occidental, aftershocks follow

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a magnitude 5.3 tectonic earthquake in Davao Occidental on July 14, 2026. The quake’s epicenter was located at 04.59°N, 125.64°E, about 94 km south‑east of Balut Island, with a depth of 10 km. Instrumental intensity I was reported in General Santos City, Malungon (Sarangani), Tupi (South Cotabato) and surrounding areas. Phivolcs said no damage was expected, though aftershocks were anticipated.

Subsequent aftershocks included another magnitude 5.3 tremor and a magnitude 4.5 event in Sarangani, Davao Occidental. The agency linked these to the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck the Mindanao region in June. On the same day, a separate magnitude 4.2 earthquake occurred in Occidental Mindoro, with its epicenter 12 km northwest of Abra de Ilog and a depth of 74 km. Instrumental intensity II was recorded in Calapan City, while intensity I affected Looc and Magsaysay. No significant impacts were reported from either event.
