Philippines issues Show Cause Orders to Meta, Roblox, Reddit, and Discord

The Philippine National Privacy Commission (NPC) has issued Show Cause Orders to several major international technology companies, including Meta, Roblox, Reddit, and Discord. This regulatory action is part of an effort to increase cybersecurity oversight and enforce accountability for digital platforms operating within the country.

The crackdown follows growing concerns regarding the safety of Filipino youth online. Regulators and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) have highlighted risks such as online grooming and the radicalization of vulnerable individuals by extremist groups through unchecked digital ecosystems. The move signals a shift toward stricter compliance requirements for global tech giants to ensure they meet national safety and privacy standards.
