Philippines lifts suspension on public transport fare hikes

The Philippine Department of Transportation (DOTr) has lifted the suspension on public utility vehicle (PUV) fare adjustments, allowing for a nationwide implementation of increased rates to help operators manage rising operational costs.

In the Davao Region, the adjustments take effect on September 28. For traditional jeepneys, the minimum fare for the first four kilometers increases from ₱13 to ₱14 for regular passengers, while discounted rates for students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) rise from ₱10.50 to ₱11.25. Modernized and electric jeepneys will see minimum fares rise from ₱15 to ₱17 for regular passengers and from ₱12 to ₱13.60 for discounted passengers.

The fare hikes also extend to provincial buses, city buses, UV Express, taxis, transport network vehicle services (TNVS), and airport taxis. Authorities have mandated strict compliance with the display of public fare matrices and the continued application of statutory 20% discounts for eligible passengers.
