Philippines' Mindanao quake relief sees major donations amid ongoing recovery challenges

Following the magnitude‑7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao on June 8, the ABS‑CBN Foundation’s Sagip Kapamilya program received a PHP 2.5 million donation from the Asian pop group F✦FOREVER, pledged ahead of their Philippine arena concert. The contribution will support hot meals, food packs, essential relief items and psychosocial activities for the thousands of families still coping with damaged homes and lost livelihoods.

As recovery progresses, the government reports 77 fatalities, 1,339 injured and 31 missing, with more than 67,000 houses damaged and an estimated PHP 1.2 billion in infrastructure loss across Soccsksargen. Over 100 roads and 39 bridges were hit, leaving many communities isolated. Electricity has largely returned, but potable water and communications remain disrupted. Residents, like 72‑year‑old farmer Armando Dante, continue to live in makeshift shelters while awaiting aid; Dante recalled, “Katong si Rania, mangayo man to og P5 nako para palit candy sa tindahan. Karon, wala na’y mangayo sinsilyo nako.” Private donors on motorcycles and light vehicles are supplementing government food packs and hygiene kits, but gaps persist as many roads and bridges remain impassable.
