Philippines monitors low-pressure area and monsoon rains

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA) within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) that has a medium chance of developing into a tropical cyclone. If the system intensifies into a tropical depression while inside the PAR, it will be assigned the local name ‘Neneng’. The LPA was last located approximately 1,040 kilometers east of Northern Luzon and is expected to move westward toward Extreme Northern Luzon.

Simultaneously, the southwest monsoon, known locally as ‘habagat’, continues to bring moderate to intense rainfall across Luzon and parts of the Visayas. Heavy to intense rain, ranging from 100 to 200 millimeters, is forecasted for several provinces including Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, and Batangas. Metro Manila and other regions are also expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall, which may lead to flooding in areas already affected by previous rains.

While much of the country faces wet weather, parts of Visayas and Mindanao are expected to experience generally fair weather, though localized thunderstorms remain possible. High temperatures are also anticipated in certain areas, with Zamboanga potentially reaching 35 degrees Celsius.
