Philippines NBI files ethics complaint against Rep. Barzaga over Senate shooting claim

National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag filed an ethics complaint before the House Committee on Ethics against Cavite Fourth District Representative Francisco “Kiko” Barzaga. The complaint stems from nine social‑media posts traced to accounts linked to Barzaga that alleged the NBI entered the Senate to carry out an assassination plot against senators during the recent Senate shooting incident.

The NBI denied the accusations and asked the House panel to investigate whether Barzaga violated House rules and to consider sanctions under the rules and Article 154 of the Revised Penal Code, which penalizes the dissemination of false news that may cause public disorder.
