Philippines partners with Meta and Roblox on child online safety
The Philippines has entered into agreements with Meta and Roblox to enhance online safety measures for minors. Following meetings with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Roblox has agreed to integrate the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) into its age assurance processes to improve identity verification.
Meta is engaging in discussions regarding the swift removal of explicit deepfake content and the implementation of parental controls. These developments come as the Philippine Congress considers stricter digital safety legislation. The move follows similar regional trends in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore regarding social media age assurance models.
The push for tighter controls follows specific safety concerns, including reports of radicalization and exploitation within chat functions. In response to these discussions, Roblox has indicated a potential plan to open an office in the Philippines by October 2026, while Meta intends to expand its local presence through a dedicated team in Manila.
