Philippines prepares for Undas holiday travel rush
The Philippine government has ordered various agencies to prepare for a significant surge in travelers during the Undas holiday period. Executive Secretary Ralph Recto directed the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to ensure sufficient personnel and services at airports, seaports, and bus terminals nationwide.
To manage the expected influx, which could see up to 2 million passengers traveling by sea, authorities are preparing backup vessels and additional buses. Security measures include deploying more police officers and K-9 units, while the Philippine National Police will intensify patrols. Agencies such as the PDEA and LTFRB are also conducting inspections and random drug testing on public utility vehicle drivers to ensure road safety.
In case of disruptions due to bad weather or transport shortages, the DSWD will provide food and water, and the Department of Health will deploy medical teams. Special assistance will be made available for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and families with young children.
