Philippines Senate gunfire incident sparks probe as President calls it fake
On 13 May, a gun‑related incident occurred inside the Philippine Senate chamber. Video showed a discharge of fire and a separate CCTV clip captured Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa leaving the premises, prompting demands for an independent investigation.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. described the episode as “fake” and compared it to events from his own time as a senator. Senate President Alan Cayetano announced that the Senate Committee on Public Order will conduct a probe, while the Philippine National Police said it will fully cooperate, having already submitted its investigative report to the Department of Justice.
