Phillip Island secures Supercars deal to replace departing MotoGP
The Phillip Island circuit is preparing for its final MotoGP Grand Prix of Australia before the event moves to a street circuit in Adelaide in 2027. This transition has caused concern among fans and local businesses due to the potential economic impact on the region.
To mitigate the loss of MotoGP, the Grand Prix Corporation has secured a five-year agreement to bring the Supercars Championship back to Phillip Island starting in 2027. CEO Travis Auld stated that the corporation aims to expand its event portfolio beyond Formula 1 and MotoGP, utilizing its management capabilities to host diverse international motorsport events.
The Supercars return marks a significant milestone for the circuit, which has not hosted the premier saloon racing series since 2019. The deal includes staging one of the championship's Finals events as part of the title battle.
