Photography exhibitions highlight cultural heritage in Peru and Chile
Two new photographic exhibitions are opening in Latin America, highlighting regional history and urban traditions.
In Peru, the Universidad de Lima is hosting ‘Chambi itinerante: el oficio’, an exhibition featuring the work of Martín Chambi. The display includes photographs, interactive elements, and audiovisual material that explore Chambi’s creative process and his documentation of Peruvian landscapes, workers, and social classes. The exhibition is open to the public with free admission from September 11 to October 9.
In Chile, the Centro Cultural La Sombrerería is presenting ‘A la chilena’ by photographer Francisco Bermejo. The exhibition features black-and-white analog photography captured between 2006 and 2016, documenting the ‘cueca brava’ (urban cueca) movement in Santiago. The collection includes images of emblematic locations, musicians, and social spaces, serving as a documentary record of this cultural expression. The exhibition opens on September 12 and will run through November 21, 2026.
