Greece police dismantle fraud rings and seize heavy weaponry
Greek authorities have dismantled several criminal operations involving fraud and illegal weapons. In Attica, a criminal organization impersonating DEDDIE employees was intercepted after defrauding citizens of over 80,000 euros through various pretexts. Similarly, in Pella, three men were arrested for a telephone scam where they posed as utility workers to steal 6,000 euros and jewelry from a woman.
In Korinthia, police identified a group targeting elderly citizens by posing as relatives to steal funds and valuables. In Thessaloniki, two men—a Turkish national and a Greek national—were released under restrictive conditions after being caught with heavy weaponry, including a sniper rifle and an Uzi submachine gun, allegedly intended for a Turkish criminal group.
Other reported incidents include the arrest of a Georgian national in Nea Smyrni for domestic violence and illegal weapon possession, and the rescue of a 54-year-old man from a shaft in Palaio Faliro by firefighters.
