Phthiotis police uncover 95,000 euro fraud targeting elderly

Police in Phthiotis have uncovered four fraud cases targeting elderly citizens, resulting in losses exceeding 95,000 euros during the month of August. The Lamia Criminal Investigation Sub-directorate identified two local men belonging to different criminal groups who utilized a similar deception method.

Acting as fake accountants, the perpetrators visited victims in their homes and claimed they faced immediate tax penalties. They convinced the elderly individuals to collect cash and valuables in cloth bags to avoid these supposed fines.

One suspect is linked to two incidents occurring on August 7 in the areas of Domokos and Stirfaka. A second suspect is tied to two cases in Lamia on August 28. Investigators seized a vehicle used by the second group in Attica. The cases have been submitted to the Lamia Court of First Instance, and investigations continue to determine if more victims are involved.
