Phu Tho police warn of delivery driver impersonation scams

Police in Thai Hoa Commune, Phu Tho Province, have issued a warning regarding a new cybercrime tactic involving individuals impersonating delivery drivers. Scammers call victims claiming there is a package to be delivered, using various pretexts such as order confirmation, delivery fee payments, or refund procedures to build trust.

Once contact is established, criminals attempt to manipulate victims into clicking suspicious links, downloading unknown applications, or providing sensitive personal information, including bank account details and OTP codes. In some instances, victims are tricked into downloading loan applications that facilitate the theft of assets or security credentials.

Authorities advise citizens to remain vigilant and avoid five specific actions: responding to delivery calls for items they did not order, providing account passwords or OTPs, clicking unknown links, installing unverified apps, or making advance payments for unspecified fees. Residents are encouraged to verify all deliveries through official shipping channels and report suspicious activity to local police.
