Phu Tho police warn of fraudulent apps stealing bank funds

Police in Phu Tho province, Vietnam, have issued a warning regarding sophisticated fraudulent schemes involving malicious applications. Scammers are impersonating officials from Land Registration Offices, police, or local government authorities, claiming there are errors in a victim's land documentation or personal identification data.

Criminals instruct victims to download fake applications, such as fraudulent versions of VNeID or public service apps, to "update" their information. These malicious apps are designed to gain control of the user's phone, allowing hackers to intercept OTP messages and drain bank accounts. Authorities emphasize that government agencies never request data updates or fee payments via Zalo, SMS, or unofficial links.
