Physical education professionals address metabolic health and obesity in Brazil

Academic institutions in Brazil are hosting specialized conferences to address the evolving role of physical education in public health. Unifev recently held its XXVI Physical Education Study Conference, featuring lectures on topics such as mental health, inclusion for neurodivergent children, sports performance, and professional management.

Simultaneously, UNIGRAN’s XV Academic Week of Physical Education focused on metabolic health and the impact of obesity treatments. Discussions centered on the importance of strength training and muscle preservation for individuals using GLP-1 and GIP analogues. This comes amid rising obesity rates; Brazilian Ministry of Health data indicates that 25.7% of adults in capital cities and the Federal District were obese in 2024, while the World Obesity Federation reports that 20.7% of children and adolescents globally are overweight or obese.
