Physician and political leader Nadia Vehurini assassinated in Guerrero

Dr. Nadia Vehurini Matadama Díaz, a physician and political leader for the Movimiento Ciudadano party, was assassinated inside her home in Chilpancingo, Guerrero. Armed individuals reportedly entered her residence in the Atlitenco de Altamira neighborhood on the evening of August 21 or 22, 2026, and opened fire.

Reports indicate the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to vital areas, including the head, neck, and chest. Following the attack, local police, the National Guard, and the Mexican Army arrived at the scene, where authorities confirmed she had no vital signs. The Guerrero State Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive, though no arrests have been reported yet.

Dr. Vehurini was a prominent figure in the region, serving as a general and family physician at the Santa Fe clinic and working at the general hospital. Her political background included serving as a substitute candidate for local deputy with the PRI in 2021 and leading Movimiento Ciudadano in her native municipality of Tlapehuala. The Network for the Political Advancement of Women in Guerrero has condemned the killing and called for a thorough investigation.
