Pickleball expands through community tournaments in Houston and Japan

Pickleball continues to expand globally through community-focused tournaments and festivals. In Houston, the 2026 Houston Open Pickleball Tournament was held on August 29–30, attracting over 300 participants. Organized in collaboration with the Chinese Cultural Service Center (CCC), the event featured various categories including men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles, with total cash prizes reaching $18,000. The tournament serves a dual purpose: promoting physical health and social interaction across generations and raising funds for the CCC’s senior health services.

In Japan, GUILD Co., Ltd. has announced the ‘Rusutsu Pickleball Festival 2026 with PICKLE PICKLE,’ scheduled for October 3, 2026, at Rusutsu Resort in Hokkaido. The event is designed to cater to both beginners and experienced players, featuring lessons, mixed doubles exchanges, and evening entertainment with DJs. The festival utilizes Rusutsu Resort’s outdoor courts, which are among the largest in Japan. This initiative aligns with the rapid growth of the sport in Japan, where the player population has seen significant increases in recent years.
