Global expansion of pickleball infrastructure and events
Overview
The sport of pickleball is experiencing global expansion through the development of permanent infrastructure and community-focused events.
In Japan, new facilities are being established in Tokyo’s Toyosu area. Japan Pickleball Holdings is set to launch ‘PICKLR TOKYO TOYOSU’, an all-weather indoor facility with seven hard courts, while TBS Holdings and Mitsui Fudosan are opening ‘PICKLEBALL PARK TOYOSU’, which features four outdoor courts. These developments coincide with a surge in Japan’s domestic player base to approximately 330,000 people.
International growth is also being driven by tournaments and festivals. In the United States, the 2026 Houston Open Pickleball Tournament attracted over 300 participants, utilizing the event to promote physical health and raise funds for senior health services. Similarly, in Hokkaido, Japan, the ‘Rusutsu Pickleball Festival 2026’ is scheduled to host lessons and competitions at the Rusutsu Resort to cater to both beginners and experienced players.
