Pickleball expansion in Asia fuels major investments and prize money boost
Major Philippine developers are building an eight‑story indoor pickleball complex called Helios in Bridgetowne. The project is a joint effort by Robinsons Land Corp’s Robinsons Sports & Leisure and Kosmas Athletic Ventures Corp, with design work by Johns Design & Consulting, the firm of professional players Collin and Ben Johns. Collin Johns said, "When even a small percentage of the country begins to play and they start to love pickleball, that makes the sport grow exponentially fast." The climate‑controlled venue will sit near Opus Mall and the upcoming Fili Hotel, with a temporary outdoor Beta opening planned for October 2026.
The Association of Pickleball Players (APP) announced that US prize money for its 2027 tour has been doubled to $3 million and emphasized that the APP Asia Tour is now a central part of its growth strategy. Citing the recently completed Penang Open in Malaysia, APP highlighted a schedule of more than 50 events worldwide, offering players greater ranking‑point opportunities and a path to professional careers. Founder Ken Herrmann stressed the aim of sustaining long‑term player careers, though specific prize money for Asian events has not yet been disclosed.
