Piedimonte Matese hosts international Enrico Caruso singing competition
The first edition of the Enrico Caruso International Prize — Le radici della voce has closed its registration period with 79 candidates from 16 different countries across two continents. Organized by the Municipality of Piedimonte Matese as part of the fifth edition of the ‘Le radici della voce’ festival, the competition has exceeded initial expectations.
More than half of the participants (40 out of 79) are from abroad. While 38 candidates are Italian, the international cohort includes 17 singers from South Korea, 7 from China, and 3 from Ukraine, alongside representatives from Japan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Turkey, Iran, Belgium, Greece, Spain, Slovakia, Romania, and Estonia. Notably, a candidate from Tokyo traveled nearly 10,000 kilometers to participate.
Fourteen of the international candidates currently reside or study in Italy at institutions such as the conservatories of Parma, Verona, Milan, Bologna, Piacenza, and Florence, or at Teatro alla Scala. The participants represent a demographic of young yet artistically mature singers, with an average age of 30. The competition semifinals are scheduled for August 28, with the finals on August 29 and a grand gala featuring an orchestra on August 30 in Piazza del Carmine.
