Piedmont province hit by severe storms, hail and flooding

Intense thunderstorms swept the Alessandria area of Piedmont, bringing strong winds, hail and heavy rain. In Borgoratto Alessandrino, trees fell onto the SS30 highway, blocking traffic and damaging house roofs. Local fire stations received a flood of emergency calls as the civil protection service worked to clear debris and secure the affected zones.

In the nearby town of Castelnuovo Scrivia, the same weather system produced up to 100 mm of rain in an hour, accompanied by large hail. Streets, cellars, homes and businesses were flooded, and an overturned vehicle was reported at the Scrivia roundabout. Firefighters from Tortona and municipal crews opened manholes to relieve water accumulation, while residents were urged to limit travel until conditions improved.
