Piedmont Region pledges €19 million to boost Moscato wine sector

The Piedmont regional government held a meeting at the regional headquarters on June 18 to address challenges facing Moscato grape production. Regional Trade, Agriculture and Tourism Minister Paolo Bongioanni announced a €19 million support package for Piedmont wines, including nearly €8 million earmarked for promotion outside the EU. An additional €20 million was allocated to encourage generational renewal and the settlement of young farmers, a key issue highlighted by producers.

According to the Asti Docg and Moscato d’Asti consortium, the Moscato area covers 9,700 hectares across 51 municipalities, with 3,500 farms and 350 processing wineries. Production as of June 1, 2026 stood at 31.45 million bottles, a 4 % decline from the previous year, while the broader Asti Docg rose 1 % and Moscato Docg fell 10 % mainly due to loss of the traditional US market. The region also launched an AI‑driven viticulture observatory to predict attractive markets and guide future strategies.
