James Bond casting search enters critical phase with new script
The search for the next James Bond is entering a critical phase as Amazon MGM Studios prepares for the franchise's next chapter. Denis Villeneuve is set to direct the upcoming film, with Steven Knight having completed the first screenplay draft.
Speculation regarding the new lead actor continues to intensify. While several names have been linked to the role, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Paul Mescal, Jacob Elordi, and Jack O’Connell, former Bond star Pierce Brosnan has remained diplomatic. Brosnan suggested the studio might choose a “left-field” option—an actor unknown to the general public. However, his co-star Tom Ellis claimed that Brosnan privately told him he would make a good Bond.
Other industry figures have weighed in on the casting. Actor Gary Oldman previously suggested that his colleague Jack Lowden might be on a shortlist of six candidates, though he later clarified he did not know the final decision. Former Bond girl Alison Papworth expressed her hope that the character remains a man to stay true to Ian Fleming’s original literary roots.
