Sardinia political dispute erupts over car tax exemption

Political tension has escalated in Sardinia following statements by Regional President Alessandra Todde regarding the potential impact of the national car tax (bollo auto) exemption on regional finances.

Members of the center-right opposition, including Fratelli d'Italia senators Giovanni Satta, Ugo Cappellacci, and Antonella Zedda, have criticized Todde’s warnings of a financial catastrophe. They argue that the Meloni government has already guaranteed compensation for regions to cover the lost revenue, with a national allocation of 2.3 billion euros.

Critics of the Regional President claim her stance is an attempt to spark unfounded controversy and defend a hated tax for political purposes, asserting that Sardinian citizens will ultimately benefit from the exemption.
