Pierre Emmanuel Binyam withdraws from MRC presidential race

Pierre Emmanuel Binyam has withdrawn his candidacy for the presidency of the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC) just three days before the party's third extraordinary convention. The decision, announced by spokesperson Marie Flore Mboussi, leaves Tiriane Balbine Noah as the sole remaining candidate for the party's new leadership.

Binyam's team cited significant irregularities in the party's electoral process as the reason for their withdrawal. Specific grievances included an inconsistent electoral file containing duplicates, incomplete data, missing regions, and the inclusion of deceased individuals as delegates. The group also expressed dissatisfaction with the party's response to their previous demands regarding delegate transport costs and membership requirements.

Legal expert Hyppolite Meli Tiakouang expressed admiration for Binyam's decision to step down rather than proceed under contested circumstances, describing it as a political lesson. The MRC is currently navigating a challenging period following its 2018 presidential election performance and subsequent boycotts of legislative and municipal elections.
