Pierre Gasly crashes Alpine car in Spa free practice ahead of tribute run

Alpine F1 driver Pierre Gasly lost rear‑wheel grip in the second free‑practice session at Spa‑Francorchamps, tearing off his rear wing and crashing into the barriers. The incident triggered a red flag but left the driver unharmed. Alpine said the car would be repaired in time for Saturday’s qualifying and that a power‑unit swap was already planned, unrelated to the crash. Franco Colapinto, driving for Alpine, finished the session seventh, 1.2 seconds off the pace.

The team also confirmed the fourth annual “Run for Anthoine” tribute run will take place on Thursday evening at Spa, honoring the late F2 driver Anthoine Hubert and the young F4 champion Dilano van ’t Hoff, both of whom died in separate accidents at the circuit. The run will start on the start‑finish straight at 18:00, with stops at Eau Rogue for Hubert and the Kemmel Straight for van ’t Hoff, and participants from the F1, F2 and F3 paddocks are invited to run or walk the circuit in their memory.
