Pietro Bartolo announced as candidate for Sicilian regional presidency

Matteo Renzi, leader of Italia Viva, has officially announced the candidacy of Pietro Bartolo for the presidency of the Sicilian Region. The announcement was made during the Leopolda event in Florence.

Pietro Bartolo, a former Member of the European Parliament and physician known as the ‘doctor of Lampedusa’ for his work with migrants, emphasized the need for political unity. He stated that his candidacy aims to unite the broad center-left field rather than fragment it, calling for an end to internal divisions and vetoes to create a viable alternative to populist and right-wing forces.

Bartolo expressed a willingness to participate in primaries if necessary, provided that all coalition members commit to supporting the eventual winner. He highlighted the importance of defending European values and implementing effective policies regarding migrant reception and social reform.
