Pikine: Investigation launched after newborn found dead in plastic bag
An investigation is underway in Pikine Sotiba, Senegal, following a dramatic incident involving a 22-year-old woman who gave birth to twins under distressing circumstances.
On October 8, 2026, a newborn was discovered lifeless in a plastic bag left on a vendor's stall. Local police traced the incident to S. Ndour, a domestic worker who reported being overcome by sudden abdominal pains while walking to work. Ndour stated that she believed her first child had been stillborn. In a state of panic, she placed the infant in a bag and abandoned it before seeking refuge in an abandoned building.
Shortly after, Ndour gave birth to a second child in the derelict structure. Unlike the first infant, the second baby was born alive and is currently under medical supervision. Police have taken the woman into custody as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abandonment and the death of the first newborn.
