Pilam Seowon hosts Pungryu Culture Festival in Jangseong

Jangseong County is hosting the Pungryu Culture Festival throughout October at Pilam Seowon, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to promote traditional Korean scholar culture.

The festival commenced on October 3 with a reenactment of the civil service examination, where approximately 300 high school students from the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions participated in recitation, classical poetry, and essay writing. An awards ceremony for the examination is scheduled for October 10, featuring an academic conference, royal procession, and celebratory performances.

Other scheduled events include a national children's drawing contest and a music concert on October 24, followed by a history lecture and concert by historian Choi Tae-seong on October 25. On October 29, an academic symposium will focus on the philosophy of scholar Kim In-hu. The festival will conclude with a program on October 30 designed to allow international students from GIST to experience Joseon-era scholar culture.
