South Korean regional cultural festivals
Overview
South Korea is hosting several regional cultural festivals throughout late 2026 to promote local heritage and traditional scholar culture.
In early October, the ‘2026 Korea Regional Culture Expo’ was scheduled for Yangpyeong, featuring performances and a ‘Paldo Makgeolli Competition’ to showcase local cultures from 232 regional centers. Simultaneously, the ‘2026 Jindo Bobaeseom Culture and Arts Festival’ in Jindo focused on intangible heritage, including a large-scale Ganggangsullae performance.
Additionally, Jangseong County hosted the Pungryu Culture Festival at the UNESCO World Heritage site Pilam Seowon. This event included a reenactment of the civil service examination for high school students, academic conferences, and various lectures and concerts aimed at sharing Joseon-era scholar culture with both domestic and international participants.
