Pimax announces Spation mini-PC for high-end 4K gaming

The mini-PC market is seeing new competition as Pimax introduces the Spation mini-PC, a device designed to bridge the gap between high-end gaming PCs and consoles. Featuring a design reminiscent of the Xbox Series X and the Steam Machine, the Spation is aimed at living room gaming.

Technical specifications for the Spation include an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor and a choice between an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT or an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics card. The hardware is intended for 4K gaming and supports up to 32 GB of DDR5 RAM, a 1 TB NVMe M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSD, Wi-Fi 7, and 2.5G Ethernet. Users can choose between Windows 11 or Steam OS, with the latter being exclusive to the all-AMD configuration.

This development follows the history of Valve’s Steam Machine, which aimed to bring the Steam ecosystem to a console-like format. While the original Steam Machine faced challenges regarding performance and component costs, newer high-performance mini-PCs like the Spation represent a more powerful evolution of the concept.
