Pinergy to increase electricity prices for 28,000 households

Electricity supplier Pinergy has announced a price increase for residential customers, effective from September 14. The move is expected to affect approximately 28,000 households, with the typical annual electricity bill rising by about €169, representing a 7.6% increase in total cost based on average usage.

The company stated that the unit rate for electricity will increase by just under 10%, though standing charges will remain unchanged. Pinergy CEO Enda Gunnell attributed the decision to prolonged volatility and elevated pricing in wholesale energy markets, noting that the scale and duration of market fluctuations have reached a level the company can no longer absorb.

Industry analysts suggest the price hike is linked to renewed conflict in the Middle East, which has driven wholesale costs significantly higher. This marks the second major price adjustment for the company in less than a year, following a unit rate increase in October 2025.
