Pingo Doce mobilizes 190,000 people for Portuguese beach protection
The retailer Pingo Doce has mobilized over 190,000 people for environmental protection initiatives across Portuguese beaches since 2021. To date, these efforts have resulted in the collection of more than 26 tonnes of waste.
The strategy integrates coastal conservation with environmental education, specifically targeting school communities. Through the #MARVIVO Brigade project, conducted in partnership with the Association Bandeira Azul de Ambiente e Educação (ABAAE), more than 170,000 students from 656 schools have participated in beach cleanups and waste analysis. In the 2025/2026 school year alone, 9,126 students from 92 schools contributed to collecting nearly 300 kilograms of waste.
Additionally, the company supports direct intervention in coastal areas through a partnership with the Centro de Alto Rendimento de Surf de Peniche (CAR Surf). Since 2025, this collaboration has facilitated 179 cleaning actions across beaches, cliffs, and coastal areas.
