Overview
In the first half of 2026, the Portuguese food retail market continued to be led by Sonae and Jerónimo Martins, who collectively hold 50% of the market share. Continente remains the market leader with a 27.6% share, despite a slight decrease from 27.9% the previous year. Pingo Doce has increased its market share from 21.4% to 22.3%, narrowing the gap with Continente.
Lidl saw the highest growth among major retailers, rising from 12.5% to 13.8% to secure third place. In contrast, Mercadona experienced its first decline, dropping from 7.5% to 7.4%, while Auchan+Minipreço saw a significant decrease from 6.4% to 5.5%.
